“The Church – Doing Ministry for the Kingdom”
Scriptures: Matthew 16:18;Romans 12:5 Ephesians 4:11-13
What Is Ministry
It was expressed by Rick Brown that; “A church will never be any stronger that it’s core of lay ministry.” I believe that the church has made great strides in organization, building structures and in financial stability, but the church as a whole, has lost focus in the areas that are of greater importance to our faith, which is the responsibility of each individual member of the church, to reach the lost and strengthen the saved.
Every Christian has at least one common ministry that they have been called to carry out or fulfill, this is the “Ministry of Reconciliation.” This calling is expressed in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19; (And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation), and
The ministry of reconciliation in simple terms is where the reconciled become advocates of the reconciler through “witness” and sharing with as many people possible, the Gospel (Good News), in hope that they would except, repent and allow their lives and relationship to be changed as well.
Secondly, the church is called in ministry to strengthen each other by allowing spiritual gifts given to the church for such purposes. We can get a better understanding by reading: Ephesians 4:11-12, 1 Corinthians 12:1. The church is to also, encourage, and fellowship with one another to become the powerful and mature people God intended us to be in ministry. This can be better understood by reading Romans 15:1 and Hebrews 10:25. All these things mentioned about what ministry really is are done in the spirit of service to others above yourself in the name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
